My grand dog, Tommy, is an adopted Great Dane mix. My son and daughter- in-law adopted him 8 yrs ago this November. He does has mild stomach issues and if your familiar with Great Danes, because they are a large breed dog, there is a possibility their stomach may flip, which has happened to Tommy. My DIL and son maintain a good, balanced, healthy diet for Tommy. His weight, if to large, can put pressure on his long legs. I wanted to share with you all these healthy and super easy dog treats (Tommy’s favorite!).
Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats
- 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 can of pure pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
- 2 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat over to 350 . Whisk together flour, egg, pumpkin, salt, cinnamon, and peanut butter.
The batter will be stiff, and at this point you can use a cookie roller and cookie cutters to cut shapes. If you prefer just round circles, I just use a small spring loaded ice cream scoop. Once the dough is cut, line up the raw treats in a baking pan and bake for 12-15 minutes. This mix above makes about 25 treats. I usually make a second batch to use up the can of pumpkin. To freeze, once all the dough is shaped, I just place in a freezer zip lock storage bags and pop them in the freezer. Of course these treats go home with Tommy, they are literally one of his favorite snacks ever and super gentle on his stomach.
